CCSD Successfully Vaccinating Employees at Districtwide Event

The Cherokee County School District is successfully vaccinating employees at a districtwide event this week in collaboration with the Department of Public Health.

The two-day event began Thursday and continues today at Canton First Baptist, with a goal of vaccinating 2,850 full-time and part-time CCSD employees.  Additional employees, including substitute teachers, will be vaccinated by DPH by special priority appointments next week.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower participated in the event, for which appointments are organized in alphabetical order, on Thursday and received his vaccine from Mill Creek Middle School Nurse Thania Molina.

“I am so incredibly grateful to everyone involved for their efforts to make this event a success,” Dr. Hightower said, noting the event could not have happened without the dedicated service of DPH and Cherokee County Health Department nurses and staff; CCSD school nurses, police officers and administrators; the Georgia National Guard; and Canton First Baptist staff.  

“Vaccination is a choice, but I strongly support this vaccine in our efforts to continue to offer as much in-person learning as possible to our students,” Dr. Hightower said.  “Thank you to all of our students and families for learning from home yesterday and today to allow for us to rapidly vaccinate our teachers and staff – we appreciate you.”

Dr. Hightower also thanked Chick-fil-A of Cherokee County and Four 41 South BBQ Co. for providing lunches at no charge to everyone working at the two-day event.
